Kybella is an injectable product that dissolves fat. It was approved by the FDA in 2015 for fat reduction of the “double chin” (the area directly beneath the chin). Widespread off-label uses include the jowls and the breast/armpit fatty bulge.

Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a natural substance our bodies make to break down and digest the fatty foods we eat.

When Kybella is injected directly into fat, it destroys a percentage of the fat cells. Once destroyed, the fat cells are removed from our body by our normal scavenger cells, and the result is a noticeable change in the contour of the area(s) treated. Multiple treatments are often necessary to achieve the desired degree of improvement.

You will be scheduled for an appointment. During that time, photos will be taken and the area(s) to be treated will be marked. The Kybella will be prepared for injection so that the actual injections can be done quickly and efficiently to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

You will receive multiple tiny injections with superfine needles in the area(s) marked. This will take approximately 5 minutes. Shortly after the Kybella is injected, you will begin to feel a burning sensation as it begins the process of dissolving the fat. Immediate post-treatment icing will improve any discomfort tremendously. Within 8 to 10 minutes, the burning sensation will subside.

A moderate amount of swelling will occur in the area(s) injected which may last 1-3 weeks. You can begin to see results 4-6 weeks after your second treatment. Final results can be fully appreciated about 3 months after your last treatment. Once the fat cells are destroyed and eliminated from your body, they will not return!
