Causes of Facial Aging and How Botox Can Help

Collagen is a protein in our body that functions like the glue that keeps all of our connective tissues together, from our skin to our muscles to our hair and bones. As we age, our body produces a gradually decreasing amount of collagen. As a result, the structural integrity of those connective tissues begins to weaken.

When administered in a Botox injection, the neuromodulating action in Botox works to temporarily inhibit the neurotransmitters responsible for muscle contractions in the defined treatment area. As a result, Botox injections give your skin the time and space it needs to bounce back into form and smoothen out wrinkles and fine lines in the treatment area.

Botox injections are traditionally administered around the eyes and upper facial area. However, it is sometimes used around the jaw, neck, and lower facial area. With that being said, it is done so less commonly in that area.
